Road Safety Week 2026 Activities

Almost 1,000 schools, kindergartens, companies, community groups and road safety professionals registered to take part in Road Safety Week 2026 and held awareness-raising events or campaigns in their communities.

Thanks to the Yellow Ribbon Alliance, the Vector Lights Auckland Harbour Bridge, along with other icons around the country, shone yellow during Road Safety Week to raise awareness of road safety.

Road Safety Week launched on Monday 4 May in Wellington. The event was attended by Road Safety Week sponsors, partners and supporters and showcased some of the Road Safety Heroes to be highlighted and activities to take place during the week. The Yellow Ribbon Road Safety Alliance also announced the winners of the 2026 Road Safety Hero Awards.

Beca, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and contractors visited schools to run road safety activities about staying safe around road works, storytime sessions with the book My Mum is Queen of the Road / Ko tōku Māmā te Kuini o te Rori and road safety discussions.

Beca held their annual Road Safety Week Quiz online on Thursday 7 May, with a number of other companies also participating

Road Patrol Superhero Day

Over 200 schools registered to take part in Road Patrol Superhero Day, sponsored by the AA , with road patrol students dressing up as their favourite road safety hero or superhero. Schools also used it as an opportunity to thank road patrollers for what they do to help keep other students safe getting to and from school.
