Road Safety Week 2025 Activities
Over 1,100 schools, kindergartens, companies, community groups and road safety professionals registered to take part in Road Safety Week 2025 and hold awareness-raising events or campaigns in their communities.

Thanks to the Yellow Ribbon Alliance, the Vector Lights Auckland Harbour Bridge and Sky Tower, along with other icons around the country, shone yellow during Road Safety Week to raise awareness of road safety.
Road Safety Week was launched on Monday 12 May in Auckland. The event was attended by Road Safety Week sponsors, partners and supporters and showcased some of the Road Safety Heroes to be highlighted and activities to place during the week. The Yellow Ribbon Road Safety Alliance also presented the annual Road Safety Hero Award to the 2025 winner, Mila Smith de Zeeuw.

Beca, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and contractors visited schools to run road safety activities about staying safe around road works, storytime sessions with the book My Mum is Queen of the Road / Ko tōku Māmā te Kuini o te Rori and road safety discussions.
Taupo District Council created a yellow ribbon display along the waterfront, in memory of those people who died on Taupo District roads in 2024.
The #LoveTaupo sign also lit yellow in support of the week.


Pass Wide and Slow New Zealand raised awareness of road safety for horses and their riders, and paid their respects to those killed on NZ roads. They held an event to launch their road safety campaign, with 43 horses and riders wearing yellow ribbons in memory of the 43 who have died since 2000.
Road Patrol Superhero Day
Over 200 schools registered to take part in Road Patrol Superhero Day, with road patrol students dressing up as their favourite road safety hero or superhero. Schools also used it as an opportunity to thank road patrollers for what they do to help keep other students safe getting to and from school.
